Hi, I have a Philips Ambilight Cineos 52PFL9632D/10 TV. After lots of problems with the Thomson UPC box i have "upgraded" to the Samsung Horizon box. Then found the same problem as everyone else. error 2040.

I rang UPC and after they faffed about with the colour settings of the TV they decide to send over an engineer. The engineer had never seen the problem however after he rang UPC he said it seems that I need to wait for a software update to the Horizon box to fix the problem. He didn't know why he was called out because he obviously couldn't fix it. He did manage to download a long list of TV's which are known by UPC to be affected by this problem. They included Philips, Samsung and Sony etc. He didn't have my specific Philips model listed so he sent UPC an email to include that model as well.

So I was back on the phone to UPC. I asked when the problem would be fixed as according to this thread it was known since beginning of Sept which is over 4 months ago. UPC didn't know but told me I should wait for a software update. So I asked when will I know when a software update has occurred. They couldn't tell me that either. They suggested I should plug my HDMI cable in every two weeks and see if it works. Unbelievable! I suggested that they should provide release notes on their website (like most other companies) so not only do we know when the software has been released but also which problems the release fixes. It would go a long way to improve their communication with their customers.

The UPC representative did offer to half my transfer fee (of 49 euros...for which I have no clue why I should pay this anyway). I will also get back a 1 euro for each day until the problem is fixed.

At the moment the only way to watch TV is through the SCART cable. So no HD channels and no way of knowing when it has been fixed.

Michiel thank you. The release notes will be useful to check.

BTW, I also tried connecting my HDMI switch box in between the Horizon box and TV but all I got was a flickering black/green screen.
