Bugs and Requests: SMT-C7140
Hello everyone!
I've had the Cisco DVB-8455 since the "Testtraject Interactieve Televisie", that began in december 2008 (I'm a
Ziggo-panel member). It was a beautiful device when I first got it, but had a lot of bugs and inconsistencies ever since.
I replaced it with a SMT-C7140B
several days ago; What a great device! Or better: What a
great piece of
software! Thank you samsung SMT-team!
I only used the interactive part of the Cisco sporadically, so I was willing to give that up (temporarily) for a device without the massive load of quirks. Certainly, the Cisco had some nice features too. So, here I am, requesting some bugfixes and things that I believe could make the C7140 an even better device.
Not really important bugs and/or relatively easy fixes:
- When FFW or RW with "128 X" speed, the speed box (top-right) only shows "X".
- When browsing files from a USB-stick, files starting with a dot (".") are visible.
On a Mac/*NIX these represent hidden files, Windows Explorer won't allow naming files with leading dot.
- Make "Tools" knob a consistent color: In Timer Menu and Library Menu, "Tools" is now a different knob color.
- Color schemes don't affect all colors. IMHO, resulting in some clashing color combinations.
Maybe make color schemes affect all elements that have color.
e.g.: everything ton-sur-ton, and add one/two matching contrasting colors for highlight/active.
Functionality requests (most desired on top)
:
- IMHO, volume control of SPDIF output is inconsistent. Stereo audio is always affected by SMT volume setting. I like it to be unaffected, just like Dolby signals.
So I can turn down volume of STM and nothing goes to TV via HDMI. And I can control volume on 5.1 receiver that comes in via SPDIF.
So maybe change the "Digital volume control" option to "SPDIF volume control"?
- Remembering of Pause-State of Time-Shift.
Pausing a program (time-shift), then start watching a recording, when done and returning to time-shift... I'd like the (time-shifted) program to still be paused where I paused it. (or start playing with the maximum buffer when the buffer is full)
- Ability to control scrolling of program description in the EPG.
Auto-scroll is fine, but I rather have the ability to scroll myself for longer texts. Or even a larger pop-up screen where up/down arrows allow scolling
- Ability to extent Time-Shift buffer to 3 hours.
Nevertheless, great piece of software as it is.
Thanks in advance for your reaction!
P.S.
what Kernel is the C7140 using?
P.P.S.
One thing that's great about the Cisco: When the remote is
in STB-mode, it still controls the volume of the TV.
I have a samsung TV (LE**R81). Is there any special/hidden remote code/function that allows me achieve the same?
(Some soldering
won't do the trick I guess, since it's probably the remote's firmware that handles functionality like the cisco has) (BTW: Anynet+ isn't an option, since it lacks functions)
My TV is now "permanently" set to a high volume and I adjust with the SMT volume when watching TV. But when I then switch to some other input of my TV (game-console/DVD), the volume is set very high.
