Jlfme,
We are developing a new release of which the eth port will be activated to support Ziggo's new iTV service for next year. Once the design and specs have been finalized between both parties, we can inform you as to what functions the eth port can support.

Should you have any questions or queries, please send a message to us directly.

Regards,
Samsung STB Team

Kurt,
There is a new release out which has resolved most of the bugs. Why would you trade in the 7140 with a Humax 5050 which has lesser features and was created over 4 years ago?

The 7140 (A&B) will become interactive next year with Ziggo's new iTV service. The LAN port of the 7140 will also be activated next year to support iTV.

Regards,
Samsung STB Team

Dear Samsung STB,

Thank you for your response.

As for the possible trade I'd like to refere to my post here:
https://ziggo-gebruikers.nl/forum/showpost.php?p=372635&postcount=87

Could you explain how iTV works?
Ziggo suggests iTV or VOD, or how you're supposed to call it, works with a Coax cable. You suggests it works with an Ethernet cable.

I'm unsure if we are talking about the same thing here?

We ofcourse appreciate your effort.
Especially trying to respond to our Dutch posts should earn respect.

But please be nice to the people trying to respond to others questions.
We're not against Samsung, or pro Humax. Don't worry about that.
We're just users ^_^

Thanks again for all your responses!

With kind regards
Kurt

Hello Kurt,
Yes iTV is the new service Ziggo plans on launching and "The Grouch" has explained it rather well. You can also use VoD as well via iTV.

We also responded to your previous thread and would like to know what S/W version you are currently using since the issues you have addressed are quite new concerning FFWD, RWD etc.

Unfortunately we are finding various comments from rather "pro" Humax supporters suggesting to purchase Humax products - these supporters are mentioning the same thing on other vendors threads as well. Therefore, please forgive our frustration on this matter since it is quite annoying that such things are being mentioned since we dont take such actions on our competitors threads...

Regards,
Samsung STB Team

The Grouch,
You might find it offensive or nice but you should also understand our position when we find out various members are only supporting Humax on our threads. So, please be aware of the situation.

Anoniem & Samsung
keep the information flow going ,at least we get some updated information on current issue's and future implementations.
This is more then some competitors in this pvr market actually do.

And yes , there will allways be customers who will complain (valid or not) but we are still dealing with a hardware/software device where these so called bugs will appear.

in my opinion my 1740 gave me good quality/performance for the money i had to pay , compared to a few other brands.

thanks and keep up the good work and intentions.

A happy samsung c1740 user.:thumb up:

Private copies are lawful

The above statement is wrong. Copyright laws generally allow private copies. There is a debate whether copies from illegal publications are allowed, but that does not apply here: the broadcasts recorded on the HDD are received fully legally. If private copies would be illegal, then recording on the HDD would be illegal as well.

 It is very disappointing that Samsung is "more catholic than the pope" here, as we say in Dutch, in particular because the text on the Ziggo website on the C7140 suggests that the USB adapter may be used to make copies on an external medium.

QUESTION could anybody please comment whether the disappearance of older recordings on the HDD is a bug or intentional (perhaps again for copyright reasons?) Note that older recordings still appear in the list, but can no longer be played. Which is a sign of a bug, or at least a bad implementation, in my opinion.

Hi,
Private copies are allowed - hence the PVR. However, to extract anything from the HDD is not allowed - its a closed "box". We have heard the concerns from other members and an example was given as to a product which allows something to what certain users require and we will investigate the possibilities of this.

The issue you are expriencing is indeed a bug. It is a rather intermitent problem which we havent reproduced (admitedly) but we are investigating the cause of this and we hope to have a fix on this within the coming release.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please dont hesitate to contact us.

Samsung STB Team
