First of all: Please excuse me for writing this in English, but my Dutch isn't that good just yet. I only moved to Amsterdam 4 weeks ago, so bear with me please
Second: What a great resource this forum is! It helped me a lot in sorting out my initial problems with setting up UPC (including an inactive wandcontactdoos). So cheeers to you guys and girls!
And finally to the actual impetus for writing this topic:
I have subscribed to digital TV via UPC and I have received the Mediabox by Thomson. It's acting kind of weird, I hope I can describe it in an understandable way.
The Mediabox is connected directly to the splitter attached to the WCD. It finds stations and also gets an IP address and the test on channel 999 works fine.
However, every now and then (the time between the problems varies a lot, so there's no rule of thumb as to when it happens) it seems to "lose connection", because when I switch programs, it will not show any picture, nor will I hear any sound. All I see then is the window that shows the station but without any program information. Turning off the Mediabox with the remote control doesn't help. The only remedy to that problem is unplugging the power cable and reinserting it, which is very annoying and very likely not the best thing to do to an HDD DVR. The problem sometimes also occurs during a running program. Sound and image stop and switching channels doesn't really work.
Like I said: There is no rule as to when this happens. It may be five minutes after turning the box on, it may not happen in one day. On other days it happens twice per hour. The box is standing completly freely, so there is more than enough air circulation.
The cables are good ones (Hirschmann, if my eyes are good enough) with metal couplings and just as long as they need to be (approx. 1-2 metres).
I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong here - my last resort would be requesting an exchange box, but maybe there's something I'm missing? I also reset the box several times to factory defaults, but with no effect.
Any tips, hints or comments?
Alvast bedankt!
Christian
